Communications

MedLabConvo

Building an editorial system that made health communication more consistent and recognisable.

Role
Editorials Co-Lead
Summary
Editorial leadership for a health publication: a house style, a managed writing team and a workflow that held up.

The challenge

What needed to change?

Health writing produced by rotating contributors drifts in tone, accuracy and quality. Readers cannot recognise a voice that keeps changing.

The context

Who was the organisation trying to reach, and why did the work matter?

MedLabConvo publishes health content for a general and student audience where clarity is a matter of comprehension, not style preference.

The strategy

What was the thinking?

Fix the system, not each article: an in-house style and guideline, defined editorial workflow, and coaching that raised the floor across the whole team.

The execution

What was actually done?

  • Coordinated the publication of 30 health articles.
  • Managed a team of 10 writers.
  • Developed an in-house writing style and editorial guideline.
  • Ran review and feedback cycles that improved writer skill and confidence.

What I learned

Editorial leadership is mostly infrastructure. A style guide and a working review loop improved the writing more than any single edit ever did.
